Thats a shallow question to study. The right questions are how can officers be distributed better across units and divisions, what should those units and divisions be doing differently, what units are missing completely (gang unit, a full intel unit, organized crime unit, platoon of full time SWAT for higher risk warrants not requiring a full team, 2 man cars on high risk beats). It's probably wasted words, since if they hire someone competent that's the first thing they will be told.

If you just want an easy number, then you can get that for free http://www.governing.com/gov-data/safety-justice/law-enforcement-police-department-employee-totals-for-cities.html

We look well staffed on paper, but when you take into account how few officers are actually on the street we are waaaay understaffed. Just a couple people out sick, on military leave, or baby light duty, or post op can decimate a platoon that always runs short. This department has more people on goofy specialty units than you can shake a stick at. Some are necessary, some are not. I am not on SWAT. I always have thought any dept. this size should maintain a full time SWAT unit though. VIPER VIPER (GI JOE photography club) is a waste and ridiculous. There are some very good officers in that unit, but it was just to placate the west end and is not worthwhile. I am sure some 'good friend' of the political powers that be will make $50 grand to bend the numbers and say that we have plenty of officers or state we even have too many. The mayor will get his KICKBACKS. No matter what happens - boots on the street need to be distributed by run volume and square miles, not to protect the holy grail waterfront crap or the Cordish Owned 4th street junk.

LMPD needs a full time SWAT team. When the pooh hits than fan your gonna call a part time team that trains once a month. That's ridiculous, I'm not confident that a part time team is in Louisville's best interest!!

POLICE CARS

Most cars including mine (marked) have over 130,000 miles . Why are all those new cars sitting on the garage lot? I am over there every other day and they keep investing in my car that should be taken out of service. Anyone else have similar issues?

12 hour shifts suck. I have worked 12's before. Be careful what you wish for. Add court it or off duty to the equation and re-think that one.

Anyone have any idea why the last two weeks I can't post to this site from my smart phone? It keeps telling me incorrect security code but I type it in correctly in all caps.

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A man standing on a ramp marked ‘no pedestrians' was arrested Wednesday night for suspicion of panhandling.

According to an arrest slip, Travis Wilson, 43, was witnessed by police holding a sign asking for work. Wilson was standing on a limited access roadway which is the off-ramp for I-64 at Grinstead Drive. There is a clearly posted sign that says, "No pedestrians."

Upon arrest, police found a wad of cash in his left front pocket, which is consistent with someone panhandling.

Wilson was arrested and charged with criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct.

I rest soundly in my bed at night, thankful that we have the "Thin Blue Line" to protect us from hard core predators such as this.
