I believe the point they were trying to make is that leaders in small/specialized units can have a great influence on those they lead. No, Kit most likely had no idea of what CP was doing. He did however set the tone for behavior in the viper unit. Through his actions and conduct he created/condoned a climate of what is and is not acceptable. Look at the "Paducah four" - each of them were good officers, good people. But under the influence of a sergeant with a strong personality and reputation for being "hands-on" they did something(s) they would not have otherwise done. They got convicted, he got to retire. Their behavior was of course not his fault, the environment he created to allow it most definitely was.
