Viper is overrated anyway. And no, I never applied and never wanted to. It was all window dressing to begin with. Louisville crime trends do not justify sustaining a unit like Viper. Lots of times Viper will find themselves desperate for anything to do. They listen for action of the beat officers and will piggyback off what the beat officers have gotten into. Viper doesn't even have a clear mission. Are they to apprehend fugitives or are they to gather intel on "the worst criminal offenders"? Who knows. Either way, it's just a novelty unit. I suspect during the next few audits, it will be either downsized significantly or absolved altogether. Louisville is not Detroit, Atlanta, or Memphis. Our criminals are largely petty.
