That article couldn't be more true. Not all the young officers but most fall into line with the article. All I ever hear from them is retired on duty. Wait till you get 10, 15, 20+ yrs on and see if your still using that phrase. We all come on gung-ho and after yrs of taking a mental and physical beating you start to police smarter. All of you young officers will get there at some point. I do see a lot of young officers with the me, me , me attitude, but thats the veteran officers fault for not putting them in their place when they came to the street. We used to call those guys squirrels and straightened them out fast or shunned them if they didn't correct. I think after merger things just got so bad that everyone stopped caring. I'm guilty of it myself. Now that the pension is gone for the new guys and gals things are only going to get worse. We can hardly get anyone to apply now, I can't imagine why anyone worth their salt would want to stick around for low pay, horrible insurance and no pension. In the beginning I would have done this job for free, but it didn't take long for that feeling to go away. To the guy or gal who posted they have agreat platoon, stay there because its rare on this dept. Most divisions the officers have their own groups they hang with and shun everyone else. Its sad but its the new reality of this dept.
