Okay then, I'm just gonna say it...I've been on for over 20 years and just like yourself, I too came from the old city. The difference between you and me is that I would never have brought that up if you hadn't made it a point as if it lends some sort of credence to your argument. All it does now is make newer officers feel as if you are some sort of elitist, talking down to them and trying to make them feel like unknowing, undeserving, spoiled children. It also serves as a point of division, carrying on that city/county, us versus them mentality. I can easily make my point and sum it up quickly by saying, " not cool man".

There have always been bad officers. In every district, on every platoon. We've covered runs for alcoholics that showed up for work drunk. We've made runs alone while our beat partners were at "The Bat Cave" sleeping in their car because they worked two off-duty jobs so they could pay their mortgage AND child support. We may have shaken our head and kept driving when we saw an officer selling "discounted" electronics out of the trunk of his or her car. It's been going on forever and will never stop as long as officers continue to represent the broad spectrum and diverse nature of society...both the good and the bad. It's just that now, with the advent of technology and the omnipotent, ever present "all seeing eye" coupled with the ability to instantly post information on-line in real time, it just seems more common.

Keep doing your job. It sounds as if you have a profound sense of pride and professionalism about what you do. I have no doubt you are well known, well liked and looked up to by the younger generation of police. But coming here and putting out there for everyone to see shuts people down very quickly, takes validity away from your argument and simply, it just seems a bit petty.
