Viper Unit gets guns off the street on New Year's Eve

Give them a break. Not bad for one night. They do what they're told like everybody else. Most (smart) beat guys park under an expressway so the bullets don't come down on them. They are mostly good guys who would be good detectives in narcotics, flex, or where ever they would have landed had there been no VIPER. We all know it's knee jerk, political hype to create that unit and that there is no real way to prevent homicides. The best thing to do would be to hire more police, put more existing police in patrol to flood the streets with beat cars, and to have judges that would put the worst of the worst in prison forever. Neither is gonna happen. That doesn't make the VIPER guys bad folks. It is what it is. Somebody is gonna be in that unit so why give the ones that are a hard time?
