Many beats in this city are dangerous enough to require 2 officers on most runs. 2-officer cars would do a lot to improve officer safety. LPD had 2-officer cars for most of its history until the politicians got too cheap. The officers helped by deciding they'd rather have their own take home cars than the additional safety. The people in charge rationalize their decisions by saying what you just said, but in reality everybody knows that a load of bullsh** intended to distract people from the truth.
