Many beats in this city are dangerous enough to require 2 officers on most runs. 2-officer cars would do a lot to improve officer safety. LPD had 2-officer cars for most of its history until the politicians got too cheap. The officers helped by deciding they'd rather have their own take home cars than the additional safety. The people in charge rationalize their decisions by saying what you just said, but in reality everybody knows that a load of bullsh** intended to distract people from the truth. There are reasonable steps that could be taken to make the job safer but nobody in charge is interested.

few years ago when I was working for the sheiffs dept five of us serve an EPO on a young male in his mid 20s in the portland area, after we gave him the papers and we was talking to him and he ask why so many deputys came we told him the person that took out the epo infrom you have a ccdw you carry a gun

when we ask if there was any guns inside the house he said yes in the hallway thats next to the door we was at there was a SKS with a 75 round drum full with ammo there was a glock 26 with a 33 round on a book self agun safe in the basement the dept did not take guns out of home casue he said guns belog to his dad and he had a DL with another address.

You never know what someone has behind the door of a home or a car
