You must have grown up in a rich neighborhood with lots of BMW's. My area has more pickups and old junk cars, and people have no qualms taking care of business when some sh1tbag tries to rob them. Many police don't even fire their weapon outside of qualification, which is generally a lot less often than the typical redneck. Don't underestimate the deterrence effect of an armed law abiding populace. That is the reason Louisville's crime is a lot lower than any of the big blue state Democrat cities like Obama's hometown Chicago, aka Baghdad on the Lake.
