Sounds like that is where you should apply.

What is your point? Unless it’s to offer discount travel and a rapid lateral program to those areas, your thought process is incomplete. You cannot take a police officer and throw them in a uniform and then say “ta-da, I should make the same no matter where I work”. Some cities pay seasonal life guards $85K a year. You won’t make that at the Portland pool or the YMCA. All places are different-if they weren’t then you would have no problem going to one of these great paying places that you mention. They would be just as good/bad and you would not miss Louisville, right? The grass is always greener and we always want more, more, more. That’s not necessarily wrong, but sometimes you just can’t get “more” where you’re standing. Unfortunately different cities, areas, and regions in this country value things differently. Some value police, fire, teachers, and the like before amenities. Some, like Louisville, value parks, bike paths, and marathons while considering police and fire to be necessary evils. You find this attitude in liberal places that have distain for personal responsibility, order, and the fact that there are right and wrong. Louisville is a place like this. Those that “run” this city would probably not have police at all if they weren’t afraid they might get shot in the face walking to work if it weren’t for us. A necessary evil. If you are looking for a place that thinks police are underpaid and need better benefits then you SHOULD be looking outside the confines of this county, my friend. My family is here, I won’t go bankrupt on my salary, and I could be digging ditches instead of policing. I’ll be staying, thanks.

All the other departments you just mentioned other than Nashville are in much more populated cities. From what I could find LMPD pays more than Nashville and is about equal to Cincinnati. Indy pays about what Jtown makes, so try lateraling to Jtown or SMPD. Could LMPD make more money, I'm sure the city could fork over some more but they wont cause like the previous poster said they like their parks, sidewalks and curbs. Bottom line is if you want to make more money go to Jtown or SMPD. In the end when you add in your court pay and what little OT they offer 60,000+ a yr and a take home car is a lot better than what most folks are getting these days.
