That only happens on departments whose command motto is "we don't care". The department has had low morale for 10 years under the Chief White system. Time to get rid of them all and bring in some new blood. If the Mayor doesn't have a clue about this, then someone needs to replace him too.

Haven't checked the work email in a few days, who was it this time?

I completely disagree. I thoroughly enjoyed the email. A lot of that needed to be said. The sad truth is that depending on where you are you can't speak your mind and "make a difference" without being "punished" in some way (crappy schedule, promotional difficulties, transfer difficulties, crappy assignments, etc).

At least he posted his thoughts with his name attached unlike the rest of us on this site.

His points are accurate in my experience. The biggest is that the structure for transferring and promotion is a sham. There are many times that very qualified folks get spots they deserve and excel in BUT that is because the CO's making the decision didn't already have someone else in mind or prechosen for the position. Most of the time people are picked for spots well before they are posted and interviewed for (what a waste of time..... interviews).

Fixing this would do a lot for morale on this dept to where officers could feel like could do good work in order to advance instead of kissing COs' a s s e s with stats or whatever "makes them happy."
