Meet the man in "The Mustang" -- LMPD's most feared traffic officer |
RE: Meet the man in "The Mustang" -- LMPD's most feared traffic...
Actually, you are wrong again, biggin’. All of those items are issued, except the service weapon and the leather gear. After the first year you get to retain your entire equipment allowance to purchase needed equipment. That IS how you spend all $900, right? Wanna know why you have to pay for your weapon and leather? Wait for it…..wait for it…..because you then own it and get to keep it. Don’t be silly. You are the guy who wants….no, needs to spend hundreds of dollars on radar equipment, and extra lights, and UFO detectors, and super thin micro cosmic homeland security risk detection ultra light two passenger vehicles.
Ride your beat.

Beginning with merger in 2003, all newly hired recruits/laterals have had to purchase their own service pistols. With that being said... why doesn't the department allow its officers more of a selection from which to choose? No doubt Glocks are very sturdy and idiot proof, but there are far more accurate and dependable high-capacity police/military pistols available on the market, e.g. SIG-Sauer, HK, and etc. This is backed-up by decades of testing and research. It wouldn't cost LMPD anything, not a penny, because they don't issue any firearms to begin with.
