Nothing in that earlier post was singling out a particular division. If there is an officer, Sgt, Lt or even a Major sitting at the division and someone is without backup, they should get in the car and go. That rule goes in triple for beat officers and Detectives nearby simply shooting the breeze or not clearing from their last run because it's "break time"

Haha yeah. I can't think of a day we haven't had at least 40 officers working the beat at any given time in the 2nd division. (I understand the sarcasm is off putting, but don't give up)

I don't disagree with the majority of your post (there are a few beats that have a fairly low call volume), but in the off chance we are STACKED with 12 cars, we consider it a good night. Typically on mids we operate with anywhere from 9 to 11 cars. That's with 6 beats. Easy math would dictate that we can't even put two officers on every beat. Granted, our division is much smaller than anything in the county, and our backup is closer. No one is saying there isn't crime in the East end. But no one can pretend that the number of dispatched runs, or the concentration of scumbags isn't considerably higher in the downtown divisions. It's almost as if the districts (divisions) were created with the knowledge that more officers need to be in the more densely populated areas. It's funny that you mention "unless there is a shooting". If you haven't watched the news or read sig acts recently, you'll find that there frequently are these types of crimes in the downtown districts. The same cannot be said for the county districts. So you're short in the county, we're short in the city. No one ever knows when a critical incident is going to happen, or where. It's important that we all think about that, and do our best to back other officers at all cost.
