You won't need it until you get some disease or condition that makes you use it. Police are exposed to all kinds of diseases while at work but you will have a hard time ever getting workers comp to pay for you to be off. If the department thinks you're abusing it then they can have a city doctor review your medical file. Harassing people about their illnesses or disabilities without being a city doctor is an easy way to get sued. I'll take a pass on that fun.
