While I agree it is unprofessional for the relief guy in question to **** or moan when taken up on his offer, he apparently did offer. He certainly should have done so eagerly as relief is a good assignment and I do not dissent with you or the OP's angle on that. However the remarks above make me think they expected to be instructed to take a break rather than asked. I have done relief several times and always tried to bring by food and offer to take a post for a while. I am almost always told no and we have some cordial conversation and I move on. I would feel as if I were patronizing or "micromanaging" someone if I TOLD them to accept my relief. At LEAST he got an offer. Some relief units vanish.
