Metro councilman to fund overtime after Hikes Point shooting

You know, Sherrard just about threw two officers under the federal bus by his comments, he didn't do officers any favors. For better or worse, the chief is appointed by the Mayor, and needs to work with the Mayor, not at cross-purposes. It is the job of the chief to educate the Mayor, but flat out insubordination will get a chief fired every time.

Let me tell you something being the police in the west end has never been respected. And us guys who worked under Sherrard and before him worked in a more dangerous west end than today's guys. You think the projects are bad now they're nothing compared to Cotter Homes back in the day. Have some respect for your elder officers. The guys who worked in crappy conditions with crap equipment. It was way more dangerous back then than it is now. I just don't get it. I never disrespected my senior officers back in the day and a lot of them were drunks, but I still gave them their respect for the job they did.
