Police working to end violence, ease community fears

What you (and others) have failed to realize is VIPER was never a realistic proposal. It was invented by Chief Conrad to sell to the Mayor during the Chief's interview process. It obviously worked, but the mission and accomplishments of VIPER are at best ambiguous. Louisville does not need a unit such as VIPER because our criminal culture here is too sporadic and unpredictable. Most officers cannot name a few trouble makers of violent crime so the efforts of VIPER are pretty much obselete. Several years ago LPD swore we needed a Gang Unit. Where is it at now? Where is Street Crimes? VIPER will have the same fate eventually. There simply is no work VIPER. They are desperately now trying to shadow the work of patrol officers.

Where is Stiemle? Stiemle will soon be attending the Southern Police Institue, taking time away from leading his Viper Unit as another Lt. steps in to right what appears to be a sinking ship. This is an attempt to get him ready for the position of Major, I assume, since the chief requires it should he be looking at you for future Major-ship. Viper can be found planning their next narcotics search warrant, in one of three divisions near you, the 1st, 2nd, or the 4th. This is how the "Violent Crime Interdiction Unit" was run, until it was disbanned, to make way for the "Viper Unit." No clear direction for that unit either, they were also to hunt the worst of the worst, in the bad parts of town and simply started doing narcotics search warrants due to the lack of leadership, lack of clear goals, or unrealistic goals and/or direction. Viper is just a statistics driven unit, or group of several units. The Fugitive guys catch shiate from their Sgt. all the time if they don't turn in enough paperwork, just ask them. They have had some success, but all the while having the "you are not producing enough stats" crap rammed down their throat. Now, to buttress the Viper unit, we are starting a "summer task force" or a unit to help aid what Viper was initially created to do. All flex units are now being imbedded with the viper unit to "solve" this up tick in violence. This will be instituted for 30 days, or until the powers that be deem it has been effective in aiding Viper do the job the Chief and Cols. said it was created to do. Riiighht!?!?!?
