First off you completely missed the point I was making. Joe citizen can carry all day long and defend himself...I support that! However, your comparison of lethal force experience doesn't make any sense. The tactics in the Infantry depending on Rules of Engagement are completely different. Police can't use suppressive fire, recon by fire, throw in a frag to clear a room. Your argument about Dorner and Tsarnaev is ridiculous! How the hell do you think the Army would have taken them out? Your argument is also invalid because while true most officers have never used lethal force, most officers with anytime on have had encounters where they could have used lethal force, and been legally justified, but because of training, tactics, verbal skills, and experience resolved the situation without getting to that point. Also, the average infantry 22 year old is probably an E-1 to E-4 meaning he is under direct supervision of NCO's and Officers, A police officer is generally on their own and have to make all the decisions and carry more responsibility. I'm proud of both my military and police experience, but Military and Civilian LE is completely different. You are also wrong about Police having more force in regards to Lethal Force...The requirements are the same for Grandma and Uncle Joe as they are for the officer. Actually the requirements are lower for Grandma and Uncle Joe, because it would be easier to articulate they were in fear of Serious Bodily Harm or Death, easier than a trained police officer. Also any civilian can arrest anyone for a known felony.
