Well lets just throw away the Constitution and declare Martial Law and let the Army run things. The Military does have better equipment sometimes. Yet, I would rather carry my Glock 22 than a M9 Beretta. While I'm proud of my Military Service, I enjoy policing a lot more. You don't get treated like a baby. (Health & Welfare Inspections, all weapons are locked in Arms rooms, some new D-bag private from LA that is a gang member that I have deal with as squad leader, since the Army lowered standards.) Don't get me wrong I love the Military, and some of the best Humans I've ever known were soldiers. But, I can tell you as a whole the Police personal are more mature, and take on more responsibility.
