I understand it was an ******* question and you were giving a sarcastic response, but the Person with the question needs to know the real truth. Most of your dues pays for legal defense and its pretty cheap. Send your letter and get out. Just know that you're on your own if you get involved in a critical incident (use deadly force, kill someone in a vehicle accident, etc). Do you have any idea how much it costs to be represented on cases like this? Not to mention non - criminal cases where you need a lawyer for a PSU case or Merit Board Hearing. Did you know that even if you choose not to be an FOP member that the law allows the FOP to charge you a "fair share" anyway, which is about 80% of what dues are? It's because you benefit from the FOP even when not a member. So go ahead and get out and pay almost the same I do but get no protection. Silly.
