LMPD CONTRACT

Brothers and Sisters,

This is NOT their first offer. This is just one of the many hundreds of offers made at negotiation. This is the one offer that the committee felt was worth bringing to the membership. And it is a damn good offer. If we vote down this offer, everything on it is off the table for good and the city gets to make " Last and Final Offer" which will NOT be in this memberships best interest. Our President and the negotiation committee are all class A personalities that won't back down. If they felt strongly enough to bring this offer to us, then you can count on that they fought hard to get everything in that contract in which would benefit us and our families. 1. Retro pay 1% (2012-2013) 2% (2013-2018), 2. Health Insurance (NO CHANGES in fees for the life of the contract), 3. Court Pay $60. Plus all the other language that were added in our favor.

The Health Insurance alone is a big deal. People this health package is NOT offered to any other PD or public safety agency in the country. We turn it down and you will not see it anywhere else, EVER. Hell, the anybody would kill to have the non-FOP Metro health insurance and they pay $526.00 a month for a family plan. We pay $100.00 for this so called Cadillac plan. Try taking that fight to the public. Good Luck! Read the contract and go to the meetings. Ask all the questions you need to make your decision. But get the facts from the source, which is from the men and women who fought the good fight to get this contract.

Be Safe!

Everyone must make their own decisions, but I urge you to read the proposed offer, ask questions, and consider the alternatives before deciding. I have been here over 20 years and gone through many contracts. The FOP is not trying to scare anyone by letting you know what the alternatives are to voting "no", just keeping you informed as to what is the next step if that happens. The thing to consider here is the enormous financial benefit the current insurance plan constitutes. Trust me, with the city, once you lose a benefit you will never get it back. I honestly feel that this a fair offer, especially considering the current financial climate that government agencies are experiencing around the country. I for one will vote for this contract offer and sincerely hope that it passes.

Is the city actually providing their actual costs for health insurance, or are they just giving a number and saying "your insurance is worth this much a year (insert whatever number they provide)"?

Metro's health insurance is self-funded, and administered by Humana. They know what Humana charges them for administration costs, but how much do they spend each year on actual member health expenditures? Health insurers are in business to make money, so are we to assume the city inflates their actual healthcare costs to provide the general fund ( well, it may not be a safe assumption that it ever went back to the general fund) with a little extra unbudgeted money like Abramson was prone to do with just about every department?

I would hope any agreement based on insurance costs is preceded by a public audit of the current insurance pool funds.
