Saint Michael, heaven's glorious commissioner of police,

who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premises

of all its undesirables, look with kindly and professional

eyes on your earthly force.

Give us cool heads, stout hearts, and uncanny flair for

investigation and wise judgement.

Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and

law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores,

strict with law-breakers and impervious to temptations.

You know, Saint Michael, from your own experiences

with the devil that the police officer's lot on earth is not

always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so

pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the

devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration.

And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your

heavenly force, where we will be as proud to guard the

throne of God as we have been to guard the city of all

the people. I also pray to thee almight god that by keeping the faith and walking in your foot steps almight god that you will lift unto thee on angels wings those who have gone before me. I am your humble servent lord and pray that my toils on this mortal coil ease the way of those who have gone before me. I ask only of you lord that you ease their burdens and allow them enternity in your glory for they are truley the servents of god. Amen.

I was driving to work that morning when I heard cars calling off blocking intersections intersecting my route.

When I called the radio room by phone to inquire why, the dispatcher, voice cracking, told me what had happened.

I met Peter while teaching a block during his recruit training, but didn't know him personally. Nevertheless, I immediately felt the worst knot in my stomach I had ever known in my police career (14 years at that time) when I learned what had happened.

I am now retired, and I still often think about Peter Grignon and the sacrifice he made, especially today on the 23rd.

To those who did know him, never forget him, and to those who didn't have the chance, always remember his sacrifice.

Rest In Peace, Brother...
