One of the guys who came back as a re hire about 3-4 years ago asked to be a FTO, he was gone less than a year I think. He was told no, that he would have to wait 3 years because of contract, that someone may file a grievance. Every PTO class since then I think only a few may have had over 5 years, the rest were 3 year guys. Experience is not welcomed in the LMPD. Like the poster said, kids training kids.

The problem is for a majority, the seasoned vets are either A, not in patrol. B, Disgruntled and dont want to be PTOs or C. Are slugs who are ROD and don't teach much as a PTO. The less senior guys are still go-getters and like to work and enjoy teaching the brand new folks. Id say 3-5 years is a good amount of time to be eligible for PTO, to teach basic policing to someone is not a super difficult task if they are squared away.
