JCPS spent $11,154 per student in 2011. Meanwhile, the average cost to educate a student in the Archdiocese of Louisville is around $6400 at the elementary level and $11,300ish at the high end for high school. Most local private high schools are in the $7000-9000 range.

Of course there are no guarantees that a kid going to a private school will end up more successful than a public school student. But, looking at past Business First lists, only the top public high schools like Manual,Male, Ballard, Eastern and J-town (surprised there)compete with the average local private high school as far as kids going on to college and/or receiving college scholarships.

So, on average, private schools locally consistently produce a much higher percentage of college-ready kids than the public schools for far less cost per student.

I don't see why there would be any opposition to JCPS taking a bigger chunk of our paychecks. They seem so efficient with what they have.

You can't make kids learn if they don't want to learn. Having been in the schools, it is obvious the kids only go to school when they want to and they have learned to get in trouble so they can leave early. Don't blame JCPS for the low academics, blame the parents that don't instill in their children that an education is important for them to have a future. It really upsets me when they blame the teachers for the low grades. I guess they have to blame someone....sad...
