Technically all Career Firefighters are to be sworn in, which makes them a "Sworn Officer" according to KRS, this is in part due to when they issue "Fire Inspection Code Compliance/Non-Compliance Forms" and "Fines for Non-Compliance". In theory if the Fire Chief of a Career Department chooses to, he may allow his Firefighters to carry a "sidearm" while "on duty", most are smart and do not. Although I have heard talk of some Jefferson County Fire Chiefs who have considered it... Yikes.
