UK Campus Police Officer Fired After Confrontation With Student

December 13th, 2012 @ 12:15AM (11 years ago)

Firing is a bit too harsh. I know others will disagree. There are many people who believe ANY infraction (including tardiness) warrants firing because that's all they know: Fire Him!

I suspect this officer was probably one who once believed that.

If we take a zero, zero, 4, 4 we are really dumb. A 2, 2, 2, & 2 is much better. I am providing a break down based on $50,000 yearly salary. I realize some make less than $50,000 but it is an easy number to work with. This also does not include KLEFPF or step pay increases.

0, 0, 4, 4

Year 1: $50,000 - no raise / no back pay

Year 2: $50,000 - no raise / no back pay

Year 3: $52,000

Year 4: $54,080

This amounts to a 4 year salary TOTAL of $206,080.

2, 2, 2, & 2

Year 1: $51,000 - You will get $1,000 back pay

Year 2: $52,020 - You will get another $1,020 in pack pay for a total of $2,020.

Year 3: $53,060.40

Year 4: $54121.61

This amounts to a 4 year salary total of $210,202. That is a difference of $4,122. We need the back pay. It compounds the yearly totals of the following years. If we take a Zero anywhere we are really, really, really, really dumb.

Contract with Zeros

December 13th, 2012 @ 1:29AM (11 years ago)

This is another way to look at it based on a 20 year career and it actually sounds quite appetizing but it really sucks dix.

I will pay you $30,000 a year for 19 years. You must take a zero percent raise all of your first 19 years. Then on your 20th year (since you are retiring and I love you - NOT) I will give you a 150% raise. Sounds good but I really just ****ed you in the bum really really hard and I'm the only one that liked it. 20 years at $30,000 with zero raise and then the hefty catch up equals $645,000. 20 years with 2% every year compounded yearly equals $728,921.06. If you like the catch up plan like the City wants you to, then you just got ****ed out of $86,921.06 over your 20 year career. Don't be a stooge and fall for the numbers game. VOTE NO if it sux dix. Worst that can happen is insurance stays the same price and eventually we will screw them like the fireman did. If there is a ZERO ANYWHERE, tell them to SUK IT!!!

Nashville got a 4% raise this year. Their starting pay for someone with a bachelors degree is $41,902 plus $400 per year uniform allowance and a $600 per year state bonus. Sidearms and equipment are bought by the department. Officers living in the county get take home cars.

Zero means zero. Don't give in to this cities crying about how broke they, they still find money when it benefits them. Don't vote for anything with a ZERO in it anywhere. Jerry's days of screwing the employees needs to stop. 2 across the board is a contract you can live with. 0-0-4-4 sucks.

University Officer Fired

December 15th, 2012 @ 8:46AM (11 years ago)

University's unfortunately aren't like governments in that they are generally run by liberal thinkers who sway in the wind. The university chancellors have probably never worked outside the university and have no inkling on what the real world is like. Look at the way U of L responded when the whole Chick Fil A thing broke out. They quickly backtracked when they discovered that their ideals weren't shared everywhere else. They honestly believe that getting a bunch of "You Tube" hits is tantamount to public dismay over the incident. Shame on them.

U of K is wrong in this instance just like they were when they fired an employee for having a weapon legally in his car on campus. They fired someone for that and he got his job back when the courts ruled they were wrong.

In this instance the Officer made a mistake when he did not arrest the subject. He should have been continually telling him to calm down and talk reasonably but he, like many of us finally had enough of the constant derisive comments and name calling. One of the cardinal rules my FTO always insisted on is: "If you have to lay hands on them, then they go to the book."
