If you detain someone with a warrant and let them go, you can be suspended for failing to perform your duties. If that guy walks away and commits a violent crime, you could easily be looking for a new job and facing a civil suit from the victims. There are some legitimate gripes to be made about the department. That would not excuse the kinds of irresponsible reactions being suggested here.
