It's a lot easier to turn a SWAT officer into a Viper or Flex Detective than vice versa. Most officers could do the entry-level detective work required there.

If we take a look at the team make up, we have guys/gals who are in patrol, viper, narcotics, district detectives, bike officers, and robbery. Pretty much the entire spectrum. What seperates us?, the training and repition of tactics/techniques. Due to the amount of training, callouts and warrants, we gain a lot of experience due to the repetition, so much so that what we need and are expected to do becomes reflexive. You either want to be on a team like this, the bomb squad, DPT, HNT or dive team and you try out, or watch and comment from the sidelines. That is the key. We all tried out, some of us several times, until we made the team of our choice. To those that have tried out, whether they succeeded or failed to make it, they have our respect. I have never felt better than anyone else on this department due to what I have done or what unit I have belonged to. We all know this job, in the end, is a thankless one and you make it what you want it to be. You either do or sit back/watch and comment about those that do. I have no problem speaking my mind about how I feel, or taking ownership for what I say. My point, you just don't know who is making these statements on this site unless they claim them. Just my two cents, pick it apart. Be safe and watch out for each other.
