This is a great point.

It's really no different than Derby details and all the other details that yank people off the street. If KB is being detailed (and that's what it is: SD), then it IS up to the commanders to make sure the beats are covered with other resources.

Yeah, maybe he does offer himself up (or politic, or whatever you want to cal it) to be available for those assignments...but he apparently does a good job or else CF, and the other Special Ops COs wouldn't keep using him. The "Buddy" system argument only carries so much water. You can bet if he mucked up while assigned SD to that Unit and made them look bad, he wouldn't continue to be utilized.

And no, I'm not a KB fanboy...never worked with him prior to retirement. But he was always nice enough to me when I saw him around. Maybe a bit squirrely, but who among us wasn't a little like that when we were young, 4 or 5-year officers??
