Exactly!!! Most people get hired with big dreams thinking they know the course of their careers. You get hired thinking you will be very successful and make rank. You think there is no reason you cannot someday become a Major or better. Then the truth sits in. You have very little control over your career. If you are not hand picked or your career is not cultivated for you to be successful, you will retire like any other officer lucky to even leave your Division. It's not about qualifications. It's about friendships and loyalties. No one is better than you, they just had better opportunities.
