I understand what your point is but I’m interested to know where you’re going with it. Firstly, don’t underestimate cost of living or healthcare cost…it’s worse than you think out there. For example: yes, an officer making 50k in Louisville could expect to make 62K in Minneapolis or Salt Lake City. However, both cities are 25% more expensive to live in overall and it’s 73% more expensive for housing in Minneapolis and 126% more expensive for housing in SLC. You don’t even want to know about the health insurance costs at either. In Memphis if you make 50K here you can expect 44K there…ouch. Their officers also pay $4,122 a year for family insurance (the cheap plan) while I pay

$1,200. They also have a $400 deductable and only 90% coverage after that. Oh, they also pay an extra $300 a year if their spouse has access to insurance but takes theirs instead.

Secondly, what is the point except that we all want/need a raise? We already all know this. Our current salaries and benefits have accrued over a long period of time. If you think our FOP can walk into a meeting and say “You’re going to give our 8 year officers a 33% raise *****, so that they make as much as SLC”, then you are high. Especially since there doesn’t appear to be enough money to go around. The city of Indianapolis is re-opening the FOP contract there because they don’t want to give them the 3% raise they agreed to last year.

Again, I understand where you are coming from but not sure what you hope to accomplish with your stats.
