Most cops who retire go about it all wrong. You should retire only when you can safely say you are quitting the workforce all together. Retiring from the police force just to find a job paying a lower salary has always sounded asinine to me. I will keep my paycheck coming for 35 years if I want to. "20 (or 25) and out" is for dreamers!

Twice the work? When you say “work”, I think of standing in the heat or cold running a jack hammer or hanging ceilings with 12’ drywall. Yes, we have a job that requires certain skills and attention to detail, but it is definitely not physically taxing. We get paid to “work” 8 or 10 hours a day. Why do you care how far you have to drive to go to a run?
