There is no need for a Narcotics Unit the size as it used to be in the 1980's and 1990's. When was the last time you saw someone dealing dope on the street corners? Yeah, there are exceptions, but that practice is not a threat to the pd like it once was. Narcotics Unit needs to downsize and adapt to the illegal drug market trend. If that means cutting the pork and becoming a smaller, more refined unit then that should happen. The days of specialty units being cushion jobs for people who really hate riding the beat are coming to a slow death.
