McKenzie Mattingly Found Not Guilty

Former Louisville Metro Police Detective McKenzie Mattingly was found not guilty of all charges involving the shooting death of Michael Newby during an undercover drug deal gone bad. The jury could not reach a decision on the lesser offense of wanton endagerment.

The jury returned the verdict at 7:30 pm after deliberating for approximately 8 1/2 hours. Their verdict on the 5 possible charges are as follows:

Murder - Not Guilty

Manslaughter - Not Guilty

Manslaughter 2 - Not Guilty

Reckless Homicide - Not Guilty

Wanton Endagerment - Hung Jury

The jury was unable to come to a unanimous decision on the 1 count of wanton endagerment. It will be the decision of the Commonwealth's Attorney wether or not to pursue a new trial on the Wanton Endagerment charge.

The 12 person jury included:

2 black females

8 white females

2 white males

Former Detective Mattingly states that he will now appeal the police department's decision to terminate his employment following the shooting.
