Darrin Potter Killed in Iraq

River City Fraternal Order of Police member Darrin Potter died Monday in Iraq while supporting combat operations with the 223rd Military Police Company. He was 24 years old. Initial news reports are stating that he was killed while responding to mortar attacks at a nearby location when his vehicle left the roadway and fell into a river.

No other details were provided, but Kentucky Gov. Paul Patton released a statement Tuesday about the tragedy. "(First Lady) Judi (Patton) and I want to extend our condolences to Sgt. Potter's family," Patton said in the statement. "We are praying for them, as we pray for all of those who have gone in harm's way in service to our nation." "As commander-in-chief of the Kentucky National Guard, I have seen first-hand the dedication and professionalism of these fine soldiers and airmen. Words cannot convey the pride I feel knowing that Kentucky's sons and daughters have volunteered to protect our freedoms and our way of life. We owe them so very much, and I invite all Kentuckians to join me in recognizing them and their families for the sacrifices they are making on our behalf." President James urges everyone everyone to keep Darrin's family in your prayers.

We will update everyone with information as it becomes available.
