A Louisville Metro Police Department officer who was backing up other officers was injured after being hit by a vehicle near Shawnee Park.

It happened August 1st in the 4600 block of West Broadway just before midnight, according to Dwight Mitchell, an LMPD spokesman.

Mitchell said the Greater Hardin County Narcotics Task Force was in pursuit of a car and the chase came into Louisville Metro. The car headed west on Broadway and into a dead end just past the entrance to Shawnee Park. The driver pulled between cars parked in front of a home, but as the task force officers approached the car drove up a hill in the front yard of a home and the two men inside started to run. The passenger was arrested by task force members, but the driver fled.

When LMPD officers approached to secure the suspects' car, it started to roll backward. One of the officers providing backup was pinned between that car and another vehicle. Injuries to the officer, whose name has not been released, did not appear to be life threatening, Mitchell said.

Hardin County officials have not provided information about the men arrested or the investigation.
