Louisville Metro Police were investigating a shooting east of downtown near the popular NuLu neighborhood Monday morning that injured two men, including an information technology worker at the University of Louisville.

The 8:30 a.m. shooting occurred during a robbery near Jackson and Liberty streets at the Marshall Court apartments across from St. Boniface Catholic Church, said LMPD spokesman Dwight Mitchell. Both men were armed and shot each other, he said. Both were taken to University of Louisville Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The UofL worker, who lives at the apartment complex, was being robbed, a neighbor said. The perpetrator fled the scene and was found a few blocks away at Jackson and Muhammad Ali Boulevard, Mitchell said.

Mitchell said police are investigating whether the robbery is connected to three others in the area. One resident said she received a notice from the complex Friday warning of robberies in the area.

People had been "on edge" because of the notice and robberies, the woman, who gave her name only as Andrea, said.

The woman said she heard at least eight gun shots and a person yelling he had been shot. She and her family responded with towels to help stop the bleeding.

'I feel like moving right this second, it's time to go," said the woman, who has children at home. "I've been here six years without any problem, but it could have been any of us on this block."
