Louisville Metro Police recruits were spreading holiday cheer Monday. The police academy recruits spent several hours with the residents of Westport Place on Westport Road and Park Terrace on Stonestreet Road.

Both are senior care facilities.

The recruits played games and talked with residents and helped serve meals.

Instructor George Rodman said, "We let them know that it's not just chasing the bad guys and locking them up. To me, this is the most important part of police work, showing the public that we do care about the people who live in this community and show that we do care to the people."

Community service has been a component of the LMPD curriculum for several years.
