The parents of a Louisville man gunned down at a busy shopping center nearly a year ago, helped present the Medal of Valor to a Deputy who tried to save their son.

It was an emotional night for the parents of 21-year-old Camden McCroskey. He was gunned down while he sat in his car in the Outer Loop Plaza shopping center last April in the middle of the afternoon.

A witness ran to the nearby County Clerk's Office and got Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputy David Blake, who tried to save McCroskey. Blake risked his life rushing to help the victim, not knowing where the shots had come from.

Blake talked to the victim to give him hope and to keep him alive while trying to stop the bleeding from three gunshot wounds. McCroskey did not survive, police later arrested two suspects in the case.
