I retired last year, and yes I was one of those "goofballs" that sent out a "goodbye" email. I thought it appropriate to say goodbye to everyone that I had worked with, those I hadn't had the pleasure to work with, and maybe just leave a thought or two. I believe I earned the right to do that, and even got some nice responses from officers I didn't even know. When you retire, if you choose to not send one of those goodbyes, then don't. If it bothers you that much to read those emails, then don't.
