While I don't agree with the light sentence, do you how many people claim to be cops that aren't? I'm not a criminal and I still can't swear if some plain clothes guy that seemed like a threat to me claimed he was a cop, I would believe it. Hell, a guy here recently tried to confiscate some dude's property by claiming he was a cop. It happens more than any of us probably realize.
