I agree. We need experienced officers on the street, and lateral transfers are a great way to quickly achieve this. Even with a 32 week police academy, some of these new recruits that are going solo in the divisions still don't know a darn thing. They are easily offended when a senior officer tries to show them the correct way to do something. They may be "experts" when it comes to the newest and fanciest hi-tech "tactical" equipment, but as far as the basic stuff... KRS and the laws of arrest, search and seizure, etc. - they still have lots to learn. Another good idea would be cutting several weeks from the police academy and using that additional time for field training.
