The last line is funny. He absolutely can hope to earn more than his base pay if he's willing to work for it. I'm not angry, but rather, irritated. I'm not even in traffic or one of the units that get a lot of OT but I am beyond sick of reading about it here from MOSTLY complainers, like these guys (who I always see working day and night) owe us all some kind of explanation because they earn all that OT. I see snide remarks left and right about it and how it "must be nice". We are always pitting ourselves against each other and this OT issue has brought out some seriously ugly sides of people I thought were better than that. Hard to interpret tone on the internet, but maybe the "would be a big help" rubbed me wrong because everyone I see post about it acts like they are struggling while traffic and other guys get to live the big life making a ton of OT. If the OP wants to go to traffic, more power to him, but the motivation shouldn't be money in any aspect of this job. Go to a specialty unit because you are interested in the work they do, not the $$$. Wishful thinking, I know
