It's about time that the firefighters got their pay and dues. Pat yourselves on the back, members of Louisville Fire & Rescue, the 3rd oldest fire department in the country!

Especially with a group that can claim such a title as one of the oldest, continuously running fire departments in the country, Louisville needs to support and be proud of such a group -- and supporting them includes giving them the pay they're due. Can any dollar value truly repay them for the nearly innumerable lives that they've probably saved in more than 200 years of service, and how many of them have given their lives in the process?

It is interesting how the issue came about in the first place. And if he's in a settling mood, where is the car money?

Glad our brothers are finally getting what they have been owed, even if it is ten years late.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A long-time Kentuckiana firefighter was killed while trying to save another person.

It happened Wednesday afternoon in Gallatin Co. in northern Kentucky on Interstate 71.

Danny Allen always held a full-time job outside the fire station, and it was while he was working on that job that he lost his life.

Allen worked for an environmental recovery company.

His job was to clean up HazMat spills, and that is what he was doing Wednesday.

He went to work on his day off to help clear an accident on I-71.

While he was on that scene, a box truck struck Allen as he pushed another co-worker out of the way.

In all, four workers were hit.

Allen took the worst hit and died from his injuries.

Allen most recently worked as a Fairdale firefighter and worked with the Nichols Fire Department as a training officer.

He has served in leadership positions in multiple fire stations in Bullitt and Jefferson counties.

Funeral arrangements are still pending.

The mayor keeps bringing up the issue about the car money. I think if the FOP would pursue this issue we might get the illegally took money from our checks back. It might be a possibility that we are not pushing this issue with contract negotiations coming up soon.

We will get our vehicle useage money back if we take a 4 year contract with 0% for the first 2 years and 1% each of the following two years. Our health insurance will go to $150 a month then $200 a month by the last 2 years. So in essence you will be earning about 5% less than you make right now by the end of the next contract . Just like we do every 4 years.

This man is a HERO! From what I understand, pushed his co-workers out of harms way and unfortunatly, took the brundt of the injuries. A last call will be made, and he will receive Firemen's honors at the service.

Visitation is today from 14:00 to 20:00 at Schoppenhorst and the service will be Tuesday at 10:00.

Hate to be a naysayer but I'm hoping that the current board dosen't give away that money in the contract negotiations. Being a retired officer , thank god, I hope that the board has enough sense to set aside the money taken from those of us who have retired waiting for it,since we will not benefit from any upcoming talks and we paid into it ( well at least I did) the whole time. Please dont forget us and sell us down the river..AAAARRGH
