I do like how Lexington pays for their helicopter. Siezed funds. Drug seized funds. Wow, what a novel idea. Wait, crap, son of a $$$$$, LMPD cannot do that, because all seized funds here go in to the cities general fund. So, in essence, if the Mayor would let the department use the money it seizes, instead of giving it away to Cordish and his other confederates, then the department could have an actual working and PATROLLING air unit. I did like the part of Chief Whites interview where he stated that if the copter is needed it would come out. I have heard it being asked for numerous times, and officers were told no. No by dispatch and no by Air 1. A shame they could not call him out on it.

Sorry, dude, but you are wrong about the Lexington Metro bird being easier to work on. I know the pilots of both air units and have talked to the guys who work on the choppers. Every chopper has it's own strenghs and weakness. Generally the easier they are to work on the less power and lift. And usually have less cool stuff like IR. But I would rather have two or three low tech ghetto birds than one high tech bird that only flies an hour a day when chief white is trying to impress somebody or lie to the media.

How about we do away with the air unit and go with private contractors? It would be cheaper and free up several officers for the street. Or replace the choppers with unmanned drones? The newer models can stay up for almost twenty four hours, can follow and stay on target better than helo's, and the controlling tech doesn't have to be a sworn officer.
