Police Chief Robert White being considered for Dallas job |
RE: Police Chief Robert White being considered for Dallas job
Actually, I've NEVER seen anything where LMPD (the FOP, for example) has made any attempt to explain any of your points of view, other than the uniformly excellent occasional pieces by Paul Schweizer. Don't say no one will print it, since you have plenty of ways to get your point across other than the usual mass media.
Actually, you really should care what the public thinks, since they do, after all, pay your salary and yes, vote in the people that make decisions about how you do your job. (Trite, I know, but is is true, my local taxes pay for police services, after all.) Making statements like the above to someone, when you have zero idea who you are communicating with, doesn't serve your purpose well. (No, I'm no one important, just a well-informed citizen of Metro Louisville, but I could be, for all you know, the next Mayor.) If you don't care, why in the h*ll are you even still working as a cop in the first place? If you all hate your job as much as you do, quit, for heaven's sake, and find another job. But the constant whining, and yes, that is how it is perceived by most people, just puts you in a lousy position when it comes time to negotiate with the next administration.

RE: Police Chief Robert White being considered for Dallas job
never a truer word has been spoken. You dont care what the public thinks is so perfect of a sentiment. There is a HUGE difference between offering to explain your side, and automatically condemning anyone who has a disagreement or critique over what "your side" is.
You want public support, but you dont want to earn it, especially through the menial tasks and benefits you grant yourselves at taxpayers expense. Take for example the whining about the take home cars. The premise was that you would stop for disabled vehicles, but the truth is, that while some officers do stop some times, many do not stop most times. Just this past sunday, about noon, right in front of the airport on the watterson was a serious car accident. Wish the unit number had been caught, but an officer in a marked unit in civilian clothes, shot right by it without a second look. It had only happened moments earlier, so there hadnt been time for other units to respond, but this officer just couldnt be bothered with it.
With the things ive witnessed and heard from others, I think allowing the use of take home cars for personal business is an extreme waste of money. Most, but not all, take extreme lengths to benefit yourselves while providing little in the way of service as a return. Thats nothing more than a personal observation. It isnt overstated or made up, its just fact from my point of view.
