Louisville plans to appeal ruling in firefighter-pay case

February 2nd, 2010 @ 3:33AM (14 years ago)

"Abramson has said he would like to avoid tapping that account because it could have a negative impact on the city's bond rating, which determines the amount of interest the city pays on the sale of bonds.

Besides the $45 million, metro government also will have to pay additional money to cover employer costs, such as hazardous duty pension and Social Security taxes.

Poynter said it is unclear how much that could add to the final total because metro officials are awaiting information from the state to calculate the amount owed."

The above quote sums it up. It is unclear the total cost. This has cost the county more than they could have ever imagined , but yet, once again want to file appeals and rack up interest on a losing battle.

Got to have that goofy arena though. I thought they were having a hard time coming up for money for that 2-3 years ago, and somehow there is always 60 million in the rainy day fund. Seems like that mysterious 20 million budget shortfall hit right around the time they bagan finally contemplating paying up.

Pay the Fireman 15 years ago ...... 10 Million

Fight it for 15 years ......... 45 million

Keep fleecing the community on another appeal ........... PRICELESS

Once again we bear witness to yet another folly of Jerry Abramson and his administration. All I can say is thank God he is leaving soon, although not soon enough. Once again he is wasting money on frivolous litigation when all he needs to do is admit he was wrong and correct the matter before it becomes even worse.

As a citizen and taxpayer I am appalled by the lack of accountability. When things like this happen in the private sector people get fired and/or go to prison.

Make sure you tell all of your friends to vote against Brashear and Abramson. They are two sides of the same coin.

Where are the mayoral candidates! They like to talk a big game so now is the time to prove it. To our brother firefighters now is the time to show up at every fundraiser and every photo op the governor and Jerry have. Bad publicity for them is great for you. What do you have to lose!

How many times is Big Head Jerry gonna grossly mismanage City of Louisville funds before he is held accountable, if there is really a budget short fall I have to believe that he is responsible for it. He is the one running the city so therefore the buck stops with him (no pun intended). He is in charge, the budget (allegedly) is a train wreck but the people of this city and the media rarely question what he does, what a joke! Hey Jerry, good ******* riddance!!

And the Democrats want to replicate Abramson's mismanagement in Kentucky state government? The state is already broke, so are they going for a California-style insolvency? If so then Jerry is your guy.
