Standoff ends after suspect turns gun on himself

July 7th, 2009 @ 11:42AM (15 years ago)

It amazes me what pushes people to such limits to do what they do. Its a shame the man took his own life. I could easily say "well, thats one less person to worry about" but he was still a human being no matter what mental state of health he was in, obviously there was some issue that drove/influenced his decision. Hopefully as the investigation continues we can have a better understanding of what triggered this situation. I'm glad no one else was killed or injured and kudos to the police and swat for doing there job so well.

It would be really easy to say "GOOD!" and "glad the idiot offed himself" and all those other similar sentiments, but I can't help but think we should all just be grateful. This guy committed suicide. He didn't want to go to back prison. He went to the furthest extent to avoid going back by putting a bullet in his head. So if he valued his own life so little, what makes anyone think he valued anyone else's life? He could have come out firing at officers, he could have killed that hostage. He didn't. I'll save the nasty "good riddance" comments and just say I'm grateful he chose not to maximize this tragedy and kill someone who was completely innocent to the situation or cops that were just trying to do their jobs. In my opinion-- as bad a criminal as he was, he went out with a little bit of dignity by choosing not to take any innocent victims with him like so many cowards before him.

Where is the public outrage? The Mayor has once again publicly announced that he will spend MORE taxpayers money to appeal a decision that government has clearly lost?
