I saw how this fine lady worked day in and day out. She truly cared about the children she protected. Rain, sleet, snow, hot, cold......she was there. You will be sorely missed.

Ironically I was picking my son up from school and as I passed the traffic guard I waved as always. I was turning on hte interstate when I heard the news and my heart just sank. I have always considered LMPD crossing guards as part of our family.

I prau for her and her family and for the driver involved in this most unfortunate accident.

May God look over her family and friends in this time of sorrow. My prayers go out to all of you. It just goes to show that she REALLY cared about her job and the people she helped while doing it. May she rest in peace.

My Thoughts and Prayers are with BOTH Families...

February 28th, 2009 @ 1:37PM (15 years ago)

My thoughts , condolences and prayers are with her family... Such a tradgedy and such a hard thing to deal with anytime something of this nature happens. I always try to make sure I slow down and pay attention to speed limit signs espically around school let out and start times... I pass a guard everyday on the way home from work and he always has a smile on his face, these are such important people in our society... She saved that childs life yesterday morning doing what she loved to do by giving her own, that makes her A HERO! Like police, firefighters, and every other emergency service personnel. There should be a trust fund set up in her honor and greater awareness be made because of sacrifice to ensure this dosent happen again. I am deeply saddened by this tradgedy. The second or two she could have spared by putting on the reflective vest could indeed have put the child in her place @ the time she was accidentally struck... I feel for the person that struck her, may the strength of god help us all get through these tough times for both families... Everyone... Try to SLOW DOWN in general while driving.. Theres always a Pedestrian outside somewhere, walking, running or going to school or even working! BE CATIOUS and AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS! You may see them but they may not see you or VICE VERSA!!!

Bless you for sacrifice and may you be eternally rewarded for your devotion to your duty. My thoughts and my prayers to the family of the fallen. May God grant you the courage to struggle through this difficult time and may he grant you solace in the knowledge that she gave her life in service and protection of the innocent.

These crossing guards have a dangerous job, and one that I would not do. My prayers are with her family.

I'm sure the Chief will have PSU initiated an investigation and find her guilty of policy violations posthumously.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Elgie familly and to all of the crossing guards that have lost a great friend. She enjoyed her job and I enjoyed working with her. I have one request to ALL Police Departments in the Metro, if you have 20 to 30 minutes during your shift that you can stop by a school and work radar or just stop by to be seen would help us greatly. I know Elaine will be watching over all of us in uniform as we do our jobs. Be Safe to everyone one that puts on a uniform to serve and protect our community.

Thanks in advance to any officers that stops and gives us a hand.
