There are alot of people making alot less than we do and have their own cars. That attitude is why the public does not suopport us. If you cannot afford a vehicle that is your fault, you are living beyond your means plain and simple.

You put yourself in that position not someone else. Do not expect people to feel sorry for you because you did not live to what your salary pays for. This will make you mad, lash out but you are the one in that position by your own doing. Not planning ahead is why you cannot afford to buy a car, period. You put your family in that position, and when you make those statements, what you are really saying to people is that you do not have your priorities in order.

EVERYBODY has a car. And you can't afford one? That says alot about a person when they talk about responsibility to thier family, and what would that entail? Having that house? getting to go to that school? having this having that, It is stuff you cannot afford my friend plain and simple.

You can flame me and I know it is coming but that will not change where you stand financially.

Having a car for your family is a basic necessity.

got to tell you my situation. I am a 15 yr vet on LMPD, moved to Indiana a few years back. The hardest part of this was the decision to move and loose "my" take home vehicle. Gas has gone up and down since then, still paying more than I was prior to moving. I found out that having the car was the not worth the stress of thinking of how I was going to miss it or how it was going to impact my finacial situation. My wife and kids are not missing anything without the car. I bought a POS to run to and from Louisville in for CASH, pick up the dept vehicle and go to work. NO BIG DEAL! As for off duty, I have a job for one day a week that I take care of, no dept vehicle needed.

I guess what I am saying is that I found that the dept car was not worth the worry. I am living just the same, if not better, without it. I drive and don't have to worry about stopping or getting flagged down. You never know what you can do until you have to. YOU can live without the dept vehicle and make ends meet you just have to make the adjustments. Not saying it is going to be easy, but it can be done. Everyone needs to decide on what is best for them and their family, but don't go giving me the BS that you just can't do it because you don't have a car because that is just a poor excuse. As someone else posted, you did not become a police officer for the dept car.

STOP WAITING!!

PUBLIC OUTCRY WILL NOT SAVE THE TAKE HOME CAR PROGRAM. THE MEDIA SEEMS TO FAVORING THE MAYOR BECAUSE OFFICERS WILL NOT GO ON THE RECORD. THE MAYOR RELEASES STATEMENT AFTER STATEMENT. WHAT IF HE SELLS THE EXCESS CARS AFTER YOU ALL PARK THEM? HE DID THIS BEFORE WHEN THE GOVERNMENT WAS FORMED. HE WILL JUST DO IT AGAIN AND BY THAT TIME THERE WILL BE NO GOING BACK. YES THE PUBLIC WILL SUFFER BUT THEY WILL NOT EVEN KNOW IT UNTIL IT HAPPENS. THE CARS WILL BE SOLD JERRY WILL GET HIS MONEY AND WHEN OFFICERS ARRIVE AT WORK THEY WILL HAVE TO PULL A CAR FROM A POOL. AND THAT WILL BE THE CAR YOU WILL USE THE WHOLE SHIFT. THIS IS CRAZY...WHAT IF SOMETHING HAPPENS LIKE LAST SATURDAY? WHEN THE ROADS FREEZE...METRO RAN OUT OF MARKED CARS AND POLICE WERE CALLED IN FROMM HOME! AND WHEN JERRY SELLS YOUR CARS AFTER YOU TURN THEM IN AND THEY ARE ALL GONE HE WILL JUST PASS THE BUCK TO YOU FOR TURNING THEM IN!
